Here’s how to install fonts
There are a few ways to install fonts. We will start with the easiest and shortest method.
Installing fonts using Windows File Explorer1. Open Windows File Explorer
To open Windows File Explorer, press and hold down the Windows key on your keyboard and tap the ‘E’ key and release the Windows key. We show you how to open Windows File Explorer more in-depth in another article if you have problems.
2. Unzip the font
This step isn’t necessary if it’s already unzipped and you have access to the font file itself. Right-click on the Zip folder and left-click on ‘Extract All…’ to begin the extraction process. Left-click on the ‘Extract’ button to proceed.
Now you will have a new folder created with you extracted files located within it.
3. Install the font
Right-click on the font file and left-click on the ‘Install’ option. The font will automatically install and no more steps are necessary.
Alternative method – Manually with Windows File Explorer
You can copy it into your font folder in Windows to manually install it. This shouldn’t be necessary, but it gives you another method in case there is an unforeseen reason the above method didn’t work for you.
Make sure your font is unzipped and displayed in the Windows File Explorer. Open a second instance of Windows File Explorer and left-click on ‘Local Disk (C:)’.
You will see, in the right pane, a Windows folder listed. On some rare occasions, it might be ‘WINNT’.
Left-click on the Windows folder and among the sub-folders listed, you will see a Fonts folder.
Right-click on the font file in the other File Explorer window and left-click on ‘Copy’.
Go back to the other File Explorer window and right-click on the Font folder and left-click on ‘Paste’.
The installation will automatically take place and complete.
How to remove a font
While one way is to simply delete it in your font folder, a more specific method would be to use your Settings app.
1. Open the Settings app
Press and hold down the Windows key on your keyboard and tap the ‘i’ key then release the Windows key. We also cover how to open the Settings app if you need it.
2. Search for font preview and related settings
Left-click in the top search bar and type ‘font’ from your keyboard. Left-click on the ‘Font preview and related settings’ item in the search results.
3. Select your font
Left-click on the font you wish to uninstall.
4. Uninstall the font
Once you have clicked on the one you wish to uninstall, left-click on the ‘Uninstall’ button.
